Place

Margaret River, Western Australia. An ancient land where the Wadandi people dream a history of 48,000 years.

It is a place where two oceans meet. A place where 80% of the plants are found nowhere else in the world. A place where the grape vines stretch leaves to an infinite sky and roots to caves thousands of years in the making. A place of deep wisdom and constant inspiration. A place found in every bottle of Ovant.

The place Ovant calls home.

Boodjidup Valley, southern Gas Bay, 7.08pm

Honouring Country

Ovant makes its home on Wadandi Boodja, saltwater peoples’ country. Ovant acknowledges the Wadandi people as the traditional custodians of the land and pays respect to Wadandi elders past and present. Ovant is committed to honouring Indigenous Australians’ unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas and their rich contribution to society.

Earth

Margaret River perches on the Leeuwin Complex, deep crystalline rocks more than a billion years old. Over the eons, granite, schist and gneiss soils have been overlaid bringing a profusion of life.

Distinct micro-climates flourish. The rugged coastal heath punished by wind and salt. The hidden valleys and streams, protected, quiet, deep green and dark. The towering tall trees, majestic and ancient. And now the grapes, at home in the maritime climate so reminiscent of Bordeaux and Northern California.

Sky

An unlimited sky. The deepest of blues, merging seamlessly into the ocean. And always framed by the giants that reach toward it. Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), marri (Corymbia calophylla) and karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor), some of the tallest trees in the world. Felled to pave the streets of London two hundred years ago, they have returned and once again make their mark in the sky.

Sea

The sea defines Margaret River. The natural beauty of the intersection of ocean and earth, some of the world’s best surfing waves. These catch the eye. But it is the ocean that holds the deeper truth. It drives the rhythm of the place. In winter, southern storms drawn across the sea from Antarctica bring the purest water. In summer, breezes cooled by the ocean hold the heat of the eastern desert at bay. Anchoring the seasons and creating the hint of magic.

“Every distillation we make is inspired by where we come from. The contrast and the harmony. The grandeur and the intimacy. We want to capture that magic in every bottle of Ovant we make.”
